Horse Riding

Very close by to Stonefly Lodge our horse operator offers a professional experience well off the beaten track with spectacular scenery. We like to keep trips small (five people or less) and personal, so you will be well looked after while still experiencing a sense of adventure.

No matter how much experience you have at riding we have a choice of horses, treks and scenery to ensure an adventure you will enjoy.

This coupled with their personal service and experience as trekking guides will give you the ultimate equine adventure.

Come and explore a choice of five unique valleys bordering the Kahurangi National Park. Spend a day on a beautiful well trained horse. Landscapes vary and you will wind through native bush, listening to the native song of the Tui and Bell Bird, and canter across green fields surrounded by majestic mountains, including Mount Arthur. You will enjoy mountain vistas on a quality horse that is willing and well schooled. Trek up high on winding tracks through the native bush and down steep tracks crossing gushing rivers. There will be opportunities to canter and trot if your experience allows you. The full day includes a farmers’ hamper for lunch.

Fly and ride option
A spectacular day of adventure! Fly by helicopter to Wharariki Beach on the remote NW coastline of the South Island where you horses will be waiting for a horse trail that only a few can experience.
This is a great beach to ride—with its white sand and West Coast surf, it has it all. Ride through the caves and watch the seals and their babies play in the rock pools that are left after the tide has receded.
For the more adventurous, a canter down the beach is thrilling—the sound of your horse's hooves as they hit the sand, and the sea breeze in your face is an awesome feeling!
A fabulous trek, it takes you climbing above the beach and crossing over the lush green hills of the Puponga Farm Park. It offers great views from the beach from many different angles and of the Kahurangi National Park.
Ride time approx. 3 hours with heli transfers taking approx. 30min each way.
